Hi, I’m Cameron!

I'm a freelance journalist and communications specialist based in Missoula, Montana, where I spend my days reporting and writing stories, newsletters and press releases, managing social media accounts, taking photos, and crafting communications strategies.

I’m currently working as the Communications Director for the Montana Wildlife Federation, writing stories for several outlets, spending a lot of time outside, and sharing my adventures on social media.

I previously worked as a reporter for the Missoulian newspaper, where I helped produce a Pulitzer-nominated investigative series about a lack of regulation of private for-profit residential programs for troubled teens in Montana. The series was credited in the passage of a new law that increased the state’s oversight of programs and resulted in the state health department’s removal of 23 children from a program following complaints of abuse and neglect. The series won a number of awards, was a finalist in the Scripps Howard Awards and received an honorable mention in the Dart Awards for Excellence in Coverage of Trauma.

I uncovered the largest known COVID-19 outbreak among nursing homes in Montana. I also examined the role higher education plays in upward economic mobility for Montana’s students with a fellowship from the Education Writer’s Association.

My writing has appeared in Outdoor Life, the Montana Free Press, USA Today and Kaiser Health News, The Cut, The Trace and Men's Health, in addition to outlets where I interned including INSIDER/Business Insider and Psychology Today.

My freelance clients include Fortune 500 Global companies, universities and numerous media outlets.

I’m a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism, where I also earned a minor in Women’s and Gender Studies.

When I'm not reporting, you can find me outside fishing, hiking, paddling, dancing, or cycling.
